Amazon data centers consumed 2.5 billion gallons water

Amazon has disclosed its data centers used 2.5 billion gallons of water in 2025, a two percent decrease from the previous year despite operational expansion. This figure emerges amidst growing concerns over the significant water and energy demands of AI data centers. The company stated its global operations consumed water at a rate of 0.12 liters per kilowatt-hour, and it claims to be more efficient than some competitors. This disclosure follows Seattle's enactment of a one-year data center moratorium, partly supported by Amazon employees.
