Amazon ends support for older Kindle devices
The Verge·
Amazon is discontinuing support for its first-generation Kindle e-readers and Kindle Fire tablets released in 2012 and earlier, effective May 20, 2026. Owners of these older devices will no longer be able to purchase, borrow, or download new content directly from the Kindle Store. While existing downloaded books will remain accessible, users risk losing access to their entire Kindle library if they deregister or factory reset their devices after the deadline. Amazon recommends using the Kindle mobile app, Kindle for Web, or newer devices to continue accessing purchased content and services.
