Artist uses recycled electronics for kinetic sculptures
The Verge·
Artist Rachel Youn creates unique kinetic sculptures by repurposing discarded electronic items such as vacuum cleaners and personal massagers. These found objects are combined with artificial flowers and metal hardware to give the pieces a lifelike presence. One notable work, 'Slow Burn,' features an artificial orchid animated by a motor from a neck massager, creating a repetitive, almost unsettling motion. The sculptures explore themes of artificiality and mechanical reproduction, using the inherent 'humanlike presence' of these everyday devices to provoke thought about their original functions and new, artistic contexts.
