Autonomous vehicle companies lack transparency

A recent investigation by Senator Ed Markey revealed a significant lack of transparency from seven major autonomous vehicle (AV) companies regarding their reliance on remote assistance operators. Companies including Aurora, May Mobility, Motional, Nuro, Tesla, Waymo, and Zoox refused to disclose how often their vehicles utilized input from remote staff. Markey criticized this "stunning lack of transparency" and is now urging the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to investigate the practice. He is also working on legislation to establish strict regulations for AV companies' use of remote operators, highlighting a growing concern over the oversight of self-driving technology.
