Bitcoin volatility decreases, signaling maturity
CoinDesk·
Bitcoin's volatility has significantly decreased from highs of 120 in 2017 to around 35, a trend attributed by Trace Mayer, creator of the Mayer Multiple, to growing economic substance and increased institutional participation. This reduction in price swings is seen not as a weakness, but as a sign of maturity, making Bitcoin more attractive to corporations, family offices, and institutional investors. The increasing sophistication of the options market, particularly the selling of covered calls by institutions, creates a natural ceiling on price spikes, contributing to a more stable and predictable asset. Mayer believes this maturation positions Bitcoin as a more viable investment, akin to gold, rather than purely a speculative instrument.
