CATL unveils rapid-charging LFP battery technology
Ars Technica·
Chinese battery giant CATL has introduced its third-generation Shenxing battery, a lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) technology capable of charging from 10% to 98% in under seven minutes. This breakthrough addresses key EV pain points: charging speed and cold-weather performance. The battery demonstrates impressive charging capabilities even at -22°F (-30°C), outperforming competitors in frigid conditions. CATL attributes this to precise cell temperature control and self-heating capabilities, alongside extremely low internal resistance. With fast-charging booths and battery-swap systems showcased, this advancement could significantly accelerate EV adoption by reducing charging times to near-refueling speeds.
