Collaboration software startup ClickUp has laid off 22% of its workforce, a move CEO Zeb Evans attributes to a strategic embrace of AI rather than cost-cutting. The company is integrating thousands of AI agents to handle complex tasks, shifting employee roles to directing and reviewing AI output. Evans believes this will significantly boost productivity, potentially leading to higher salaries for employees who effectively leverage AI. While a recent Gartner survey indicates many companies using autonomous tech have reduced staff, it also notes that these cuts don't always yield financial gains. ClickUp, however, claims to be experiencing measurable productivity improvements from its AI implementation.
