Ethereum explores 'Blobs' to ease validator data burden
The Block·
Ethereum researchers are investigating a new proposal, dubbed 'Block-in-Blobs' (EIP-8142), to enhance network scalability by moving execution-payload data into blobs. This approach aims to reduce the bandwidth requirements for validators by allowing them to process data directly from blobs rather than downloading and re-executing full transaction payloads. This change targets a significant bottleneck in Ethereum's current architecture, where increasing block sizes and gas limits place considerable strain on validator resources. Additionally, a separate proposal, ERC-8211, is being explored to enable more sophisticated, multi-step transaction execution for users and automated agents.
