Google launches forest protection map
Google Blog·
Google has partnered with Brazil to create a highly detailed satellite imagery map of the country's landscape from the early 2000s, aiming to aid in forest protection efforts. This new data, available on Google Earth and Earth Engine, provides local authorities with an unprecedented tool to accurately measure progress in combating deforestation. By processing thousands of historical satellite images and correcting for clouds and color, the imagery achieves up to six times greater precision than previously available. This enhanced detail allows for the identification of specific deforested areas, enabling more targeted action and progress tracking.
