Microsoft locks WireGuard developer out
TechCrunch·
WireGuard, a foundational open-source VPN software, is unable to ship critical updates to Windows users after Microsoft suspended its developer account. Creator Jason Donenfeld discovered he was locked out without prior notification, preventing him from signing drivers or releasing new versions. This mirrors a similar situation with VeraCrypt, another widely used encryption tool. Both developers were locked out due to an uncompleted mandatory account verification process for the Windows Hardware Program, which has since closed. While Donenfeld has been in contact with Microsoft and hopes for a swift resolution, the incident highlights potential vulnerabilities for essential open-source projects reliant on major platforms.
