RCS update enables cross-platform video calls
The Verge·
A new RCS Universal Profile 4.0 standard, announced by the GSMA, aims to enable interoperable video calls between iPhone and Android users within messaging apps. This feature, known as Messaging-Initiated Video Calls (MIVC), will allow users to seamlessly transition text conversations into video calls. MIVC also supports group calls, enabling members to join ongoing video sessions and synchronizing call logs within the chat history. While the implementation is still pending, this development signifies a significant step towards natively supported video calling across different mobile operating systems.
