Rivian owners sue over self-driving feature claims
TechCrunch·
Rivian faces a class-action lawsuit alleging the electric vehicle maker misled customers about the autonomous driving capabilities of its first-generation R1T and R1S models. Plaintiffs claim Rivian falsely advertised that its Driver+ system would enable hands-free, eyes-off driving, a capability akin to SAE Level 3 autonomy. The lawsuit contends that Rivian knew these first-generation vehicles would never achieve such functionality despite a nationwide marketing campaign promoting these features. This legal challenge mirrors similar suits against Tesla, highlighting ongoing consumer and regulatory scrutiny over automaker claims regarding advanced driver-assistance systems and the path to true self-driving technology.
