Senators demand data center electricity usage data

U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Josh Hawley have formally requested that the Energy Information Administration (EIA) begin collecting comprehensive annual data on electricity consumption by data centers. They argue that this information is critical for accurate grid planning and for developing policies that prevent large corporations from driving up energy costs for consumers. While the EIA has initiated a voluntary pilot program to assess data center energy use, focusing initially on Texas and Washington, the senators are pushing for mandatory, nationwide disclosures to ensure transparency and informed decision-making regarding energy infrastructure.
