Tesla Robotaxi crashes involve remote teleoperators
TechCrunch·
Newly unredacted data reveals Tesla's Robotaxis have been involved in at least two crashes since July 2025, occurring while teleoperators remotely controlled the vehicles. Both incidents happened in Austin, Texas, at low speeds with a safety monitor present and no passengers. In one case, a remote operator drove the vehicle into a fence, and in another, it collided with a construction barricade at 9 mph. While Tesla claims remote operation helps move compromised vehicles, these incidents raise questions about the safety and scaling of its autonomous ride-hailing network, especially as the company admits safety is the primary limiting factor for expansion.
