Volkswagen unveils electric GTI for Europe
Ars Technica·
Volkswagen has revealed its first all-electric GTI, the ID. Polo GTI, drawing inspiration from the iconic 1976 Golf GTI. This new model features front-wheel drive, a 222 hp electric motor, and a 52 kWh battery offering an estimated 236 miles of range under WLTP testing. It boasts a 0-62 mph time of 6.8 seconds and supports DC fast charging. Despite its retro design cues and modern performance, the vehicle is not slated for release in the US market due to anticipated range limitations and pricing concerns compared to existing American EV options.
