Waymo recalls 4,000 robotaxis over construction zone issues

Waymo is recalling nearly 4,000 of its robotaxis to prevent them from entering highway construction zones, following at least 13 reported incidents where vehicles drove into closed construction areas. The autonomous vehicle company voluntarily restricted freeway operations on May 19th while developing a software fix. This recall addresses Waymo's struggles with recognizing and navigating these specific edge cases, which have become more apparent during its ongoing expansion. While the vehicles remain operational on surface streets, this marks the sixth recall for Waymo's robotaxi fleet.
